How to Track Cash, Mobile Money, and Bank Accounts Together
Keep cash, mobile money, and bank balances clear without counting transfers as spending.

Money in your pocket, an MTN MoMo or Orange Money balance, and a bank account can all fund the same week. Tracking each separately helps you answer two questions: where is my money, and what did I spend?
Give every balance a wallet
Create one wallet for each place you keep money: cash, mobile money, and your bank account. Start with the balances you can verify today.
Record cash-out as a transfer
Moving 10,000 XAF from mobile money into cash moves your money; it does not spend it. Record a transfer between the two wallets. If the provider charges a cash-out fee, record that fee separately as an expense.
When you pay 2,000 XAF for groceries, record an expense from the cash wallet. This keeps the withdrawal and the purchase from being counted twice.

Set an allowance without spending it on paper
If you set aside 10,000 XAF for the week, treat that as your spending limit. Do not record the full allowance as an expense while the cash is still yours.
Log purchases as you go. If you miss a few, count what remains, compare it with your records, and investigate the gap. Record only confirmed missing spending or a clearly labelled estimate. Do not add a catch-up expense and a second balance correction for the same gap.
Check once a week
Compare each recorded balance with the cash you count or the balance shown by your provider. Check transfers and fees before treating a difference as spending.
